Sugar Scrubs

Sugar scrubs are my favorite! For me, they tend to be less drying than the salt scrubs. Sugar may be bad for your teeth but it does wonders for your skin!  Below  are recipes for a few of my favorites.

Brown Sugar Scrub

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup almond oil
1/4 cup liquid Ivory hand soap
1/4 tsp  vanilla

Lemon Sugar Scrub

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
1 TBS lemon zest (grated)

Mix all ingrediants together and use as a body scrub/exfoliator.

Candy Cane Sugar Scrub

 2 Cups Sugar
1 Cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
 2 tsp honey
 8-10 drops peppermint oil
 Red food coloring
 2 mixing bowls
Clear glass or plastic container with secure lid

Add 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil and 1 tsp honey to each bowl and stir until the ingredients are blended.
Stir in the peppermint oil and blend the mixture several times, until the oil is completely incorporated with the other ingrediants. Add a few drops of red food coloring to one of the bowls, stirring well. Start with 1 or 2 drops of food coloring, and add more until the sugar scrub is the desired color.
Place a layer of pink candy cane sugar scrub in the clear container, and follow with a layer of white sugar scrub. Continue layering pink and white sugar scrub until the mixture has all been placed in the jar.

Notes:

  • One of the great things about making your own scrubs is that they are natural ingrediants so they are naturally preservative free.
  • Because of the lack of preservatives, the scrubs should be made in small quantities and used within three weeks.
  • Keep jar dry and in a cool area, do not bring jar into shower. Instead use a spoon and scoop amount needed into a paper cup.
